Government and Politics

Nottingham High School

Government and Politics is a growing subject which offers students an in-depth grounding in the UK political system and institutions of government in Year 12.

We study the American system in Year 13, an opportunity which is hugely enjoyed by our classes. The current nature of the subject is one of its attractions. Students need to keep up-to-date in order to provide examples to support their written answers.

Government and Politics is a highly analytical subject, the theory of which is applied in an ever-changing context. We are pleased that we are able to offer a subject which is not always available in other Sixth Forms.

We have a track record of achieving exam success with all kinds of students, ranging from those wishing to read the subject at university to those wishing to add breadth to their chosen subject combination.

The department prides itself on the degree of support we are able to offer to all those who wish to learn with us and in return we expect an active and engaged approach from our students. We are confident that all students who are willing to support their learning through their commitment in class and devoting substantial private study time to the subject will succeed with us.

The committee of our successful Politics Society is drawn from those studying the subject with us and we enjoy trips to support learning. Subject to availability, we ensure that all students have the opportunity to visit Parliament and the UK's Supreme Court during their time with us. In recent years we have also been fortunate to have been able to run two trips to Washington and New York.

Located in the aptly named White House, the Government & Politics Department is well resourced and offers a vibrant and stimulating learning environment. The sense of purpose shared by our students and our staff is key to our ongoing success.
