34th Nottingham Scouts and Explorer Scouts
Our Scout Troop and Explorer Scout unit meet every Friday after school during term time. From 4:15pm until 5:45pm and are open to boys and girls who are members of the school.
Members of the Troop (years 7-9) are offered an array of activities from cooking and first aid to more adventurous activities such as canoeing and climbing.
Our annual Troop visit to the Lake District at Easter encompasses a variety of activities including mountain biking and hiking. These trips are great fun and enable the scouts to improve valuable skills, such as navigation.
“Scouts is a great opportunity to meet new people and have some amazing experiences” –Sean Kavanagh, Current Explorer Scout.
The highlight of the scouting year is the Troop Summer Camp. This is held in one of four locations and is an action-packed week that combines traditional scouting and exciting activities. From sailing to canoeing and pioneering, topped off with nightly bonfires, it’s a week not to be missed!
As the scouts move into our Explorer Scout Unit (years 10-13) we encourage them to be more independent and plan meetings themselves. They also get the chance to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, a valuable experience which is recognized by employers and universities alike.
Scouts makes up some of the happiest memories of my time at this school. The leaders are great fun and the atmosphere is generally amazing.- Callum Rittig, Current Explorer Scout
The ESU hold an annual camp alongside the Troop Camp though we also hold an international trip every 3 years for years 11-13. These trips are an opportunity for the scouts to take their adventurous activities to a new level. We have visited both Norway and Switzerland on numerous occasions since the year 2000 in the pursuit of high level adventure from scaling 4000m peaks, descending deep limestone gorges, crossing the vast glaciers of Scandinavia or traversing the high alpine passes of Switzerland and Italy, scouting at the 34th offers a wealth of exciting experience.
