Richard joined the School in 2021, following more than a decade of teaching in London’s independent schools. He has taught Chemistry and Sport Science, alongside holding senior leadership responsibilities, and continues to play an active role in the School’s extensive sporting programme, coaching and accompanying teams across a wide range of fixtures and competitions.

Richard is also closely involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme and regularly leads and supports overseas trips, helping pupils to develop independence, resilience and a broader understanding of the world around them.

As the person responsible for the School’s trip and clubs programme, Richard is passionate about the value of experiences beyond the classroom. He believes that creating opportunities to develop skills in new environments and perspectives are fundamental to developing young people who are curious, open-minded and respectful of others. For him, educational experiences should not simply be enjoyable; they should challenge pupils, broaden their horizons and help shape the people they become.

Richard has two children, both of whom attend the School. Outside of work, he can usually be found running or attempting to convince himself that he has finally retired from hockey. He is a former Olympic athlete who represented both England and Great Britain for almost a decade, earning more than 200 international caps. He is also a European Gold Medallist.

His experiences in elite sport have shaped his belief that life is ultimately about the experiences we have and, perhaps most importantly, the people with whom we share them. This philosophy underpins his work at the School and his ambition to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to try something new, discover their passions, challenge themselves and find their place of belonging within the School community.
