Nottingham High School Statement on Headmaster’s Leave of Absence
Mr. Kevin Fear, Headmaster of Nottingham High School, is taking a leave of absence for personal reasons and will not be returning to work before his planned retirement at the end of this academic year.
Mr. Fear joined Nottingham High School in 2000 and assumed the role of Headmaster 7 years later. Throughout his 18-year tenure, he has led the school from strength to strength, fostering an environment of academic excellence and holistic development.
Under his leadership, the school was once again named the top school in the East Midlands for last summer’s exam results and ranked among the top 40 schools nationally for both A Level and GCSE results. Notably, the recent GCSE results were the best in the school’s history. This success is a testament to Mr. Fear’s dedication and vision, and the school has moved up something like 100 places in the league tables. Beyond academic achievements, Nottingham High School was named the East Midlands School of the Decade—a recognition that speaks to the broader values and achievements nurtured under his guidance.
We fully respect Mr. Fear’s decision and extend our heartfelt gratitude for his many years of unwavering commitment and service to the school. During this transitional period, Paul Spedding will assume the role of Acting Head Teacher with immediate effect, ensuring continuity and stability ahead of Andrew Holman’s appointment as the new permanent Head in September.
We would also like to make it unequivocally clear that this matter does not relate to any financial misconduct or any behaviour or conduct involving pupils.
Mr Steve Banks
Chair of Governors
