A Typical Junior Day

While no two days are the same for pupils at our Junior School, a typical day looks a little something like this.

Breakfast
A choice of hot and cold breakfast is available for Junior School pupils in the Senior Dining Hall from 7:45am to 8:35am – the perfect opportunity for parents to grab a bite to eat with their children at the beginning of the day. This is not supervised for Infant and Junior children, so they must be accompanied by an adult.

Junior pupils are welcome to join us in the Junior School Yard from 8:00am, where there is supervision available.

Registration and Form Period
The school day begins at 8.40am with registration in pupils’ form rooms. This gives pupils a daily opportunity to organise their materials and discuss any issues with their form teacher.

Assembly or House Meetings
After Form Period pupils often meet as a school for assembly or singing practice, or in their Houses for House meetings.

9:15am – 10:10am
Lessons
At 9:15 pupils begin their lessons, with each one lasting 55 minutes.
The subject areas covered throughout the week are: Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Drama, Art, Design and Technology, Information Communication Technology / Computing, Music, Religious Education, Modern Foreign Languages, PE, Swimming, Games, and PSHE. Year 6 pupils are offered Food and Nutrition lessons as well as an introduction to Philosophy.

Break
A chance for some fresh air, a snack and a drink and time to play with friends.

Lessons
Pupils have their second set of lessons of the day before lunch. Pupils may be splashing in the pool, mastering their Mathematics or writing their first great novel in English.

Lunch
Pupils make their way over to the Senior Dining Hall for lunch, during which time they have a wide choice from the menu which is cooked on site. Lunchtime is also a great opportunity for pupils to take part in a variety of co-curricular activities, as well as playing in the playground.

Afternoon registration and Form Period
The afternoon starts with pupils enjoying focused pastoral time in their forms. The content of these sessions varies by year group and term but may involve pupils’ ‘Spotlight’ presentations (show and tell for the 21 st Century) or a ‘Headlines’ discussion (news and current affairs).

Lessons
Pupils have their final lessons of the day. On Mondays Year 3 and 4 head to Valley Road for their afternoon of sport with Year 5 and 6 taking their turn on Fridays.

Pupils gather their belongings and get ready for the end of the school day.

After School Club (free of charge)
Pupils who need to wait a little later to be picked up by their parents can stay for the start of After School Club until 4:30pm free of charge.

After school clubs and activities
Junior School pupils take part in a wide range of after school clubs and activities including Lego Club, Chess Club, Young Voices and Chinese Club.
