Mrs Higson, Head of Computer Science

Congratulations to Will H (Year 11) who has once again demonstrated a real talent and aptitude for complex problem solving and computer programming. Back in November, he was one of almost 400 students at the Senior school to take part in the UK BEBRAS challenge, which is a prestigious problem solving competition organised by the University of Oxford. Nearly 40,000 participants across the UK took part last year. He sailed through to the next round, which is the Oxford University Computing Challenge. Students with a score in the top 10% of their relative age group are invited to sit this stage. Around 100 students from the High school were also invited to take part in the OUCC, along with Will, which took place in January.

However, Will breezed through this round scoring full marks in each section, which meant he was invited to take part in the final round in March. He was one of only 27 students across the whole of the UK to make it to the final round, and the only student in the whole of Nottinghamshire!  Will took part in the final round at the beginning of March and we are delighted that he has come 9th overall in the country. What an amazing achievement!

The students who came top in their age categories for the OUCC are pictured below- congratulations to Freddie, Zoran, Ben, Arran and Dylan for their excellent performances!
